The party traveled along the treacherous Moonveil Strand, making their way toward the distant city of Veythrone. The waters of Lake Veythrone proved unstable and unpredictable, with waves that shifted suddenly and threatened to throw them off course. Sybil, the red-headed witch, guided them through the dangerous passage with her keen instincts, navigating the party safely despite the lake's volatile nature. As night began to fall, thick mists rose from the water, heavily obscuring their vision and slowing their progress to a crawl. The party pressed forward through the supernatural fog, with Sybil continuing to lead them true even as the mists threatened to disorient and lose them completely.
As they pushed through the obscuring mists, mysterious figures began to emerge from the darkness around them. Strange creatures made of bark, root, and shadow materialized from the fog—some smaller and moss-covered with glowing eyes, others massive and shambling with an aura of decay. Lena used her mystical sight to identify these entities as Grovewardens, spirits of ancient druids that protected sacred groves, and Rotbound, larger spirits of decay and hunger that spread corruption and disease. The party realized they had somehow violated the natural order by their presence, and these blighted guardians had manifested to drive them away or destroy them. They quickly positioned themselves for battle, with the frontline fighters preparing to engage while the spellcasters readied their magic from safer distances.
The battle erupted with terrifying intensity as the Rotbound lashed out with massive branch-like arms and corrupted vines that erupted from the ground. One of the towering Rotbound struck Mike, restraining him with blighted roots that dug into his flesh and spread a sickening green corruption through his body. The Grovewardens supported their larger allies by creating verdant shields that absorbed incoming attacks and unleashing clouds of dark, blighted mist that infected anyone caught within. Dante and Greg coordinated a devastating assault on one of the Grovewardens, with Greg's sword cleaving deep while Dante delivered a crushing follow-up blow that nearly split the creature in two. Despite their efforts, the Grovewardens continued to protect the Rotbound with their magical barriers, reducing the damage the party could inflict.
The corruption spread as more party members fell victim to the blighted mist, their skin taking on an eerie green glow as the supernatural disease took hold. Mike and Dante worked together in a spectacular display of teamwork, with Mike's ooze-covered blade flying through the air to strike a Rotbound while Dante kicked the weapon deeper into the creature's body. This coordinated attack not only dealt massive damage but also freed Mike from his restraints and cleansed Dante of the blight afflicting him. Lena and Sybil combined their corrosive magic to weaken another Rotbound, their acidic projectiles eating away at the creature's defenses and making it vulnerable to further attacks. The party began to turn the tide as they systematically destroyed the Grovewardens, eliminating the protective shields that had been keeping the Rotbound safe.
Ulric became enraged when blighted tendrils caressed his body, triggering a furious assault with his warhammer that reduced one of the Rotbound to splinters and fragments. The party worked together to cleanse the blight from their afflicted members, with Mike using his healing abilities to remove the corruption from Greg and Ulric. As the last of the blighted creatures fell, the supernatural mist began to thin and dissipate, revealing the city of Veythrone clearly visible in the distance. Just as the party began to recover from the battle, an orange circle of light appeared in the air and grew larger, and from it stepped Travian, who had mysteriously vanished earlier and now returned through some kind of portal.
The party questioned Travian about his whereabouts, and he explained he had gotten lost in a castle, though the details remained vague. He noticed immediately that Pyrrhus was no longer with the group and that Sybil had taken his place, though he had never met her before. As they stood on the Moonveil Strand with Veythrone now clearly visible before them, the party debated whether to rest and recover their strength or press forward immediately to meet Commander Locke of the Argent Order. They knew they were racing against time, with an invasion countdown threatening the region and a mysterious ghost ship approaching the coast. The party understood that their meeting with Commander Locke would provide crucial information about this supernatural threat, but they also recognized that they had expended significant resources in the battle and might need to recuperate before facing whatever challenges awaited them in Veythrone.
