CROW'S HOLLOW | BLOODSTONE # 1

The adventure begins with the party gathering in the treetop village of Crow's Hollow, nestled high in the ancient Schattwald Forest of Gräuhaven province. The diverse group of adventurers had made this unique settlement their home, each bringing their own skills and mysterious pasts to the community built within hollowed-out tree cores connected by rope bridges and wooden platforms.

Dante, a fawn brawler, operated the peaceful tavern called Dante's Inferno, serving as the heart of the village's social life. Greg, an enchanted suit of armor with memories of befriending rats in a castle, stood guard as a silent sentinel. Lena Craig, a hedge witch from hearth and home, had recently arrived to help heal The Traveler's injured fox companion using mysterious substances from tombstones. The enigmatic The Traveler himself was a wandering war wizard who wielded magical firearms and commanded his six-legged fox familiar named Faust. Sir Ulric Thornstrom, a winged warrior with glowing eyes who had emerged from the corrupted Blightoak Tree, served as a protector against the supernatural threats of the forest. Pyrrhus, a sea-born half-dragon alchemist with vampiric tendencies, worked alongside Mike O'Riza, a shapeshifting slime creature born from the Blightoak's sap who had absorbed corpses to gain humanoid form. Finally, Travian, a vampire ranger accompanied by his undead puma Lightbane, used necromancy to fight the very creatures he had become.

The village itself was a marvel of defensive engineering, featuring ballista emplacements positioned around the perimeter and a graveyard below where Travian's accursed guardians lay in wait. Captain Crow managed the messenger bird system from his high nest, while Doc Smith the blacksmith crafted weapons and tools for the community. The apothecary run by Mike and Pyrrhus served both healing and more sinister purposes, with their workshop carefully separated from public areas for obvious reasons.

As night fell over the Schattwald Forest, the party had gathered in Dante's Inferno to share drinks and stories. The Traveler demonstrated his magical revolver with its glowing sigils, while Sir Ulric recounted his recent arrival and encounter with werewolves that had led Greg to assist him. The peaceful evening was suddenly shattered by the sound of multiple werewolf howls echoing through the mist-shrouded forest, closer than any had heard before.

The rangers of Crow's Hollow immediately sprang into action, their footsteps thundering across the wooden platforms as they moved to defensive positions. Through the thick mist that perpetually clung to the forest floor, the party could make out the desperate screams of a woman and child fleeing toward their village, pursued by a pack of diseased-looking werewolves with glowing red eyes. These creatures appeared different from normal werewolves, their fur mangy and their appearance somehow wrong and corrupted.

The defenders quickly coordinated their response as the chase unfolded in the darkness below. Mike positioned himself at one of the ballista emplacements, coating the massive bolts with his deadly leechweed poison while directing the crew's aim. Lena gathered medical supplies and used her magic to illuminate a safe pathway with glowing mushrooms, guiding the fleeing civilians toward the rope ladders leading up to safety. Pyrrhus enhanced the lighting effects while Ulric and other defenders prepared for direct combat.

The Traveler summoned his fox companion Faust in a burst of green flame, teleporting the creature to assist the fleeing woman and child. As the werewolves closed in, the ballista crews opened fire under Mike's direction. Their first shot went wide, but Mike's encouragement helped them reload and strike true, sending a poisoned bolt deep into one of the pursuing beasts.

In a spectacular display of magical prowess, Faust transformed into a spinning wheel of fire and launched himself at the wounded werewolf. The fox's flaming cartwheel attack engulfed the creature in burning fur and flesh, filling the air with the acrid smell of charred meat. However, despite their efforts, the werewolves managed to catch the fleeing woman. Her agonized screams echoed through the forest as she was torn apart, though her young daughter managed to escape and reach the safety of the village.

The werewolf pack, now numbering six creatures, pressed their attack on Crow's Hollow itself. As they breached the village's outer defenses, Travian's accursed guardians erupted from the graveyard below, animated corpses clawing at the intruders as they passed through the burial grounds. The undead sentinels managed to wound several of the attackers, but the werewolves pressed on with supernatural determination.

Dante leaped from the treetop tavern in a dramatic descent, attempting to engage the werewolves in hand-to-hand combat, while Greg found himself face-to-face with one of the snarling beasts. When the creature's claws raked across his enchanted armor, Greg's magical nature caused the attacker to wound itself on his metallic form. Meanwhile, Lena attempted to entangle another werewolf with magical vines, but the creature broke free and continued its assault.

The battle intensified as Lena successfully struck a werewolf with her bolt beacon spell, causing the creature to glow with vulnerable light while dealing significant damage. The wounded beast immediately entered a berserker frenzy, lashing out at everyone within reach and catching Greg, Lena, and Travian in its wild attacks. Despite the chaos, the little girl managed to reach safety in the upper levels of the village.

Sir Ulric activated his legendary unstoppable ability, becoming an inexorable force of destruction as his momentum built with each successful strike. His great sword cleaved through werewolf flesh while his supernatural resilience allowed him to shrug off their counterattacks. Lena used her hearthborne magic to transfer hope to her allies, enabling devastating coordinated strikes.

The turning point came when Greg and Lena executed a perfectly synchronized tag team attack. Lena's staff work created an opening that Greg exploited with his great sword; their combined assault literally cleaving one werewolf in half. The sight of their packmate's destruction only enraged the remaining creatures further, but the defenders' momentum was building.

Dante and Pyrrhus followed up with their own coordinated strike, with the vampire alchemist biting deep into a werewolf's flesh to feed while Dante delivered a devastating kick. The werewolf's attempts at retaliation proved futile against their combined defenses. Mike continued directing ballista fire while occasionally joining the melee himself, his amorphous form allowing him to avoid attacks that would fell normal combatants.

As the battle raged, Mike wielded his paired swords with mechanical precision, while the remaining werewolves grew increasingly desperate. Their pack tactics allowed them to coordinate attacks, but the defenders' superior positioning and teamwork gradually wore them down. Ulric's unstoppable momentum made him nearly invulnerable to their claws and fangs, while his staggering strikes left the creatures reeling and vulnerable.

The final werewolves fell one by one to the combined efforts of the party. Mike's poisoned weapons delivered killing blows that left the creatures writhing in agony, while Ulric's great sword work and the others' coordinated attacks eliminated the remaining threats. Just as victory seemed assured, a lone werewolf was spotted fleeing at the edge of their vision.

Mike immediately gave chase, using his amorphous abilities to slingshot himself through the forest with incredible speed. His pursuit led him far from the village, where he caught up to the fleeing scout and eliminated it with a devastating skull projectile attack, ensuring that no word of Crow's Hollow's defenses would reach whatever larger force had sent this scouting party.

Returning to the village with the werewolf's corpse in tow, the party gathered to tend their wounds and assess the situation. The realization that this had been a scouting party rather than a random attack cast an ominous shadow over their victory. While they had successfully defended their home and saved the little girl, the death of her mother and the organized nature of the werewolf assault suggested that greater threats loomed in the darkness of the Schattwald Forest.

As the party settled in for a well-deserved rest, Mike consumed portions of the werewolf remains to heal his injuries through his unique physiology, while Pyrrhus spent the night researching alchemical formulas using the clean bones Mike provided. The successful defense of Crow's Hollow had proven the effectiveness of their coordinated defenses, but questions remained about what force had sent the diseased werewolves and whether more attacks would follow. The little girl they had saved would need care and protection, and the village would need to prepare for whatever darkness might emerge from the ancient forest in the nights to come.
