FREEDOM’S FIRE: RISE OF THE KAOS KING| THE GREAT WAR #12

The mission began with the party flying through a fierce snowstorm in a cargo plane piloted by Heinrich Wolfgang von Grimm, who entertained them by singing German songs, including Hasselhoff tunes. As they approached their destination, Gaston reported seeing something on the wing, though it turned out to be merely a smudge in his helmet. They eventually spotted their target - a broken observatory dome half-buried in frost on a jagged, snow-covered mountain ridge, with a steel hatch bearing arcane etchings and red emergency lights below it.

Upon landing, they encountered Heinrich guarding the door, who playfully demanded snacks and praise before allowing them passage. The team learned they couldn't get radio signals in or out of the facility, and the door's arcane seal prevented even Takeshi's teleportation abilities. In their attempts to enter, Takeshi and another member accidentally crashed into a computer terminal when teleporting failed, causing a cryogenic pod to malfunction and release its occupant - Hawk, who had been contained due to necrotic energy issues.

The team finally gained entry when Ellie used her lightning powers to dissipate the void energy sealing the door. Inside, they discovered Dr. Thaddeus Stein's diesel punk laboratory, complete with surveillance cameras and mechanical equipment. Stein explained his mission to create a communications array that would connect resistance forces against Rasputin, though the system was currently malfunctioning.

In the massive underground generator chamber, the team encountered a mechanical void creature chewing on generator wires. Takeshi's attempt to attack with his void sword backfired when the creature absorbed its energy. Through coordinated efforts, including Ellie's lightning strikes, they managed to destroy the construct and capture the small metallic void bug controlling it. They learned that a recent asteroid storm might have brought these creatures to Earth.

The successful repair and activation of Stein's communications array was marked by the emergence of a cathedral-sized satellite dish from underground, complete with brass girders and indigo energy coils. As worldwide communications were established with resistance networks, the team received orders to join Alpha team near Moscow for a final assault against Rasputin.

The battle for Moscow proved intense as the team engaged Imperial forces. They exploited a weakness in the mech knee joints, with Patrick and Takeshi planting C3 explosives while Hawk raised an army of nine undead soldiers. The team faced their greatest challenge in a giant Cyclops mech, but through coordinated efforts and clever tactics, they managed to destroy it by forcing it into a river.

The victory led to a reunion with Alpha team, the enhanced soldiers of Project Genesis. The combined teams gathered in a makeshift shelter - the remains of a grand building with a half-dome ceiling. Around a central campfire, they shared stories and recovered from battle, with Nimoi providing healing to the wounded. The gathering took an ominous turn when Sphinx, the team's precognitive member, shared a vision about a crown made of sins and a coming storm of ash and stars.

Throughout their mission, the team demonstrated remarkable coordination and resourcefulness. Heinrich provided crucial air support in his battle suit while Jen operated heavy weapons, and Gaston effectively deployed his explosive gas attacks. The mission brought together various factions including the French Resistance, represented by Henri and Elise LeFleur, and the Knights of Empire, all united in their fight against Rasputin's forces.
