In a quiet library elsewhere, Derek Lazarus was reading when the air suddenly became cold and two shadow spirits materialized. The spirits called him by his old name "Lazarus" and expressed their intent to possess him. Derek drew his sword and discovered it could actually cut through and banish the supernatural creatures, successfully destroying the first spirit. The second spirit expressed surprise at this ability before charging at Derek, who defeated it as well, though not before it touched his arm and left a black handprint mark.
Torin Storm then arrived at Derek's library, casually eating an apple and browsing books. Derek warned him to mind the ectoplasm from the recent spirit encounter, and Torin asked for Norse mythology books. Derek explained that he went by "Lazarus" when it came to his swordsmanship abilities and owned the library, though it didn't make much money. Torin described his work for Director Locke funding charitable efforts to rebuild Quad City and mentioned other team members with various abilities.
Derek revealed his disabled arm and explained his limitations, but Torin assured him it wouldn't be a problem. Torin called his friend Elizabeth to watch the bookstore while Derek was away, and Derek agreed to join the team. They prepared to leave for the helicopter outside, with Derek putting up a wet floor sign next to the ectoplasm and leaving the keys for Elizabeth.
The introductions concluded with all recruits having been contacted by Torin Storm and brought together under Director Locke's SOAR initiative to form a new super team dedicated to protecting people and rebuilding communities affected by supernatural threats.
